Seth Troxler Michael Mayer: The Peacock Society (Paris, October 7): As often as not, the worst aspect of the b2b is the way certain DJs might as well just be playing self contained fifteen minute mini sets, one after the other, rather than traveling the same road. But there’s a clear mesh going on at this Paris club between Troxler, the young Detroit to Berlin transplant who’s been in the top ten of Resident Advisor’s annual DJ poll for six years running, and Mayer, the public face of Cologne’s legendary Kompakt label. Both have a taste for tangy hooks balancing freaky minimalism, and wide open, disco flavored grooves, not to mention curious vault picks, such as Emmanuel Top’s acid monster remix, from 1997, of the Age of Love’s self titled 1990 single.
Vuja de is the reverse we face something familiar, but we see it with a fresh perspective that enables us to gain new insights into old problems. Without a vuja de event, Warby Parker wouldn’t have existed. When the founders were sitting in the computer lab on the night the conjured up the company, they had spent a combined 60 years wearing glasses.
I am not a huge fan of fireworks shows either. It terrifies and displaces local wildlife and is not great for the environment. They all take advantage of several massive key trends: the growth of iPhone and Android, the ubiquity of decent cell phone cameras, GPS, and existing social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare. Each of these apps is built for mobile first.
The more she worked, the more she made. The better she was at her job, the more likely she was to get the extra shift when it became available. So when I began working on a farm when I was 12 years old, I had the same mentality. The more potatoes I picked, the more money I could make.
But, oh dear, Rita, while we all in favour of you taking a look and making it your very own and we do quite like the sleek lines of your dress the plunging neckline is an inch or two too far, leaving you looking unfortunately tacky. Perhaps it’s time you started hanging out with ‘wifey’ Cara Delevingne again. She might be able to give you some style tips, or, at the very least, some tit tape..
