In Your Words with Cindy Gilstrap
Hi my name is Cindy Gilstrap and I love to create! It’s my passion. I love combining vintage and new items to create something beautiful. I also love to inspire others to create beautiful things. That is why I started my little online shop www.JunqueArt.com. I sell vintage and new supplies that can be used in all sorts of art applications. I also design and sell seasonal art kits.
I truly believe art is good for the soul! I feel a constant need to create all the time, but one of the things I love most about creating is that it is a great healer.
It takes me away from the hustle and bustle of every day life and transports me to a peaceful place. It helps me put things into perspective and makes an other wise stressful day look bright again.
Creating to me is a feeling. My feelings or my mood is what guides me to what or how I might create. I love mixed media, art journaling, collage techniques and more. I love combining textures and colors to either reflect the mood I’m in or to change my mood.
Combining textiles is another thing I love to do in collage style. Creating through stitching is also very rewarding and a change in mediums that gives me a different perspective.
My studio is one of my favorite places to hang out. It’s a place I can start a project and just work on it when I have a minute or two. I can leave things out and not worry about them being in someone else’s way. It’s a place that I also try to make pretty with all my vintage collections that inspire me to create. It’s a place where my kids and I can hang out and create things together.
I am so blessed to have an entire room for my art. But you really don’t have to have an entire room. I highly recommend claiming a small spot in your home that you can dedicate to art. Even if it’s just a corner with a card table, make it your space; a space that you can visit when you get a few minutes and sit and take a break from the world for a moment. A space that makes you smile because you are creating art!
Can you tell I was very tired of doing laundry on this day? LOL! See, even ordinary every day chores can inspire art! You just have to keep your eyes open. My huge pile of laundry inspired me to do this art journal page and it turned out to be one of my favorite pages. And no, I still haven’t gotten all of the laundry done!
I hope you will take the time to explore your creativity. Inspiration is everywhere around you, even in laundry! LOL! Even if you have never created anything, just start. You will be so glad you did! It’s just good for the soul!
I also hope you will come by and visit me sometime. I am part of the Joli Paquet Blog team and I also currently teach workshops in Texas.
You can visit me anytime at www.JunqueArt.com. This will also link you to my blog. Please stop by and say hi anytime! I would love to see what you are creating!
