“Follow Your Heart ~ Do What You Love.”
I don’t know who first coined those two phrases, but I have combined them into one inspirational quotation that I try to live out each day of my life.
It’s my motto; my mission statement.
It took me many years to figure out that if you don’t follow your heart – or your intuition, or gut feeling – when making decisions about art and life, then you aren’t being true to yourself and things always go awry.
I’ve learned to go with the flow, especially in creative endeavors, to achieve a serendipitous result in the end. Always listen to your instincts because your heart will always lead you in the right direction. I know it sounds a bit cliché, but it really and truly does work. If you can have faith in yourself – in your heart’s song – then you can never go wrong.
If you choose to do work that you love – whatever that might be - then you’ll never tire of it. I know when I am creating my art I can stay up all night and it never feels like a burden to me. In fact it actually energizes me and gives me the fuel to keep on going.
I know that sometimes it’s difficult to support yourself by doing the things you love, but if you can carve out even a small amount of time each day or each week to spend some time doing those things you love to do, you’ll be surprised at how far that feeling of bliss will take you.
