Donna O’Brien is a mixed media artist who traces her earliest connections to “art regalia” back to the time she tried on a little plaid skirt and walked to school pretending she was a Highland lass like her Scottish ancestors.
And to the long afternoons she spent looking through old German letters from her Grandmother and spying a hand-written correspondence that was signed, Count Laderbach, and envisioning her grandmother’s secret life with royalty.
Exciting fantasies with a little bit of “what-if it’s true?” continued to inspire Donna and her artwork.
Creating art, and then personally connecting to it? It just doesn’t get any better than that.
Finding that bond that really inspires your spirit and what you love, and reflects who you are… that’s got to be the place where you start. For me, the glimpse into my family’s Scottish and German heritage has led to wonderful imaginings and inspiration. When you discover that connection to yourself and then it leads to your creations, everything else just falls into place.”
Drawing and making items incorporating costuming, heraldry, pageantry, monograms, and intricate details…oh the regalia of it all!
When you discover that connection to yourself and then it leads to your creations, everything else just falls into place.
Donna’s creations and home have been featured in Victoria Magazine, Romantic Country, and several Stampington publications. You can follow Donna’s art and musings on her blog, http://donnaobrien.typepad.com.
